DEAR PEOPLE ,
Just to repeat myself again, there would be a file-check on monday @ 3:30PM .
I want everyone to get your own individual files with the two scores in
-MEMORIES OF FRIENDSHIP
-SYMPHONIC OVERTURE
(with bar numbers written) . also i need everyone to just slot in one piece of paper of your name on the 1st page of ur file,or if u wan you could just simply write it on ur file cover . Scores could be borrowed on monday to photo, but make it fast as bookshop MIGHT be close @ around 3? i think .
After you have done, SL collect the files and place it on the Band store tables , after checking we would put it back on your cupboard, as for woodwinds just follow as i said just now :) !

I have good news for you guys, i just received a feedback from another senior member from another section in the band, saying that our section's tone is good and has improved alot!

So great job guys! All of you deserves a pat on the back! This is the kind of awesome feeling you will get after you know that you HAVE put in the effort to practice, so, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK KAY GUYS! (:

As you all know, this is already the 4th week of January, and next week is February already. Time is passing really quickly. And SYF is also drawing nearer and nearer. So good luck and jiayou for the rest of the upcoming auditions okay!

I may be giving the stern/serious/scary face when auditioning you all, but please bear in mind, I'm not angry at you all or anything! We auditors just NEED to be serious when auditing! We aren't even allowed to smile you know! So, anyway, that's not the point. JIAYOU PEOPLE! :D

1. Write your bar numbers.

2. Monday sectionals : Must come back! To work on,

- Your upcoming auditions.

- To practice and improve yourself for the upcoming SYF!

4. Herda and I won't be there for Monday's sectionals to teach you all, cause we have PCIP. (4e5, same class.) So it's all up to yourself to practice!

6. ALL THE BEST FOR AUDITION! Remember - ALL Your targets should be 85%! Cause that's the percentage the band have to get for a Gold(with honours?) medal in SYF! For SYF audition, we will be looking out for EVERYTHING, Rhythm, notes, articulations, dynamics, tone, intonation(how in-tune or out-of-tune your notes are), phrasing(where you breathe etc.) and musicianship(feelings etc.). Venue: East Coast Part & City Hall
Date: Wednesday (8 September)
Meeting time: 12.20pm
Meeting place: Bedok Mrt Station Ticketing Office

We will be going to City Hall first to Marina GV to watch movie (Step Up 3), which is at 1.40pm.
After that, ECP, cycling. (:
Do bring some chips and drinks for the ECP and the movie too!:D
One movie ticket is $7.50 (Not including food and drinks).
And one bike is about.. $3 - $5 - $7. Around there, depending on how long you guys wanna cycle.

Okay, your September Holiday Practice (singular) has just ended!
Which means, now is the time for you all to practice yourself at home, when you are free(:
Be sure to buzz regularly to avoid losing your embouchure. Buzzing doesnt make so much noise, so there is no excuse to not be able to buzz!
And if you all are going overseas, DO NOT bring your trumpet OR mouthpiece overseas. It is not allowed as they are school property(:

Hey Trumpet People!
Just to let you all know that, during the September holidays, which is next week,
The practice day(singular) will be on SATURDAY!
8am to 6pm!
It is only one day, so dont worry too much okay!
You all will have enough time to study for your upcoming exams, revise, and finish up all your holiday homeworks! :D
Anyone who cannot make it, tell me PERSONALLY.
Dont ask your friend or whoever to pass the message to me.
I want to hear it from YOU personally! :D
With your reasons, of course. Haha. :P
And the solo concert for the Sec2s are Tomorrow!

Remember: Dont freak out! Relax and give it your best shot! :D

Another thing. I want ALL of you all to bring back your Trumpets on the last practice before CCA stand-down!
Which is the Friday after September holidays!
If you all notice, when you all come back for band after awhile of not playing your trumpet at all, you will notice that your lips will die very fast, cannot pitch as high, cannot hold as long etc etc.
So to avoid that, the best method is just to buzz on your mouthpiece AT LEAST 1 minute a day!
Or just for awhile every 2 to 3 days or so.
Trust me, it will keep your lip in place while you all are not having band.(:
And of course, dont forget to bring back your files too! So you all can pratice when you all have the spare time(:
LAST THING: Open your trumpet case and press your valves at least once every 1 to 3 days. This will keep your valves from being stuck.

Hey Trumpet Section!

There's band practice tomorrow (16th, Wednesday).

SIBF is on the 23rd of July.

The number of band practices we have is decreasing and decreasing and decreasing.

Are you all trying your very best to your utmost ability?

Do you all think you all can do better?

Think :

What makes someone a good player and a good band member?

Of course things like Having a good tone, and good musicianship comes straight to your mind.

Other things like having a good attendance and showing respect to every member at all times also comes to mind.

Are you all working towards to being a good player?

If you haven't, it's time to start NOW.

Just so you all may want to know, the way to achieve a good tone is by playing long tones.

Lots and lotsss of long tones.

I expect initiative to bring home instruments or even mouthpieces and files starting from now onwards.

Firstly, You all should have the faith, the motivation and the determination to start anything.

I want to see it in EVERY SINGLE one of you. Including the Sec4s. You all are still performing for Speech Day and Parents Night. Help the section while you all still can! (:

You all do have the ability to do what you can. Like taking the initiative to coming to S.Is, bringing home your instruments to practice on your own, bringing your files home to score study, do ACS and sing and fing, or even just signing out your mouthpieces to buzz at home.

You all only have a few more practices to your performances. Time is passing really fast now, if you don't start now, then when?

Let's say you all slack now. Shit discipline and lousy attendance. And you all just go for the performance with this kind of attitude, and 10 years later, you look back and would you be proud of what you did today? If you were given a chance to relive today, would you do the same thing?

Memories are the only things that doesn't change. What kind of memories would you want to create in the band for you to look back 10 years from now?

Okay,I ought to post something.

Actually I wanted to tell this to you all since dont know when.

This was what I intended to say the day they announced the post,which I already nicely plan out my speech to you all.How coincidental.(Ive edited it)

Here goes!

Sy's intended speech to section.

Hi folks,I've been your section leader for almost a year already.

And I have realised I have not been pushing you all to your full potential,great heights and high standards.

I have taken all of you for almost 1 year,and I can say I know every single one of you,and how you feel by your facial expressions.

Don't worry,all of you have been very "Guai" (good boys and girls),and very funny people.

You all really come for sectionals either on Mondays or Wednesdays,or even both days,without me reminding you at all.Which is really good,and this is the correct kind of attitude I want all of us to pass to down to the next batch,and spread it:D

I feel bad for not being able to stay for very long during S.I.,but you all must not slack alright!

I also noticed that sometimes the seniors can ignore the juniors during S.I.,this should not be the case.Seniors,you all are seniors(how 'DUH'),so you must treat S.I. like having sectionals,guide the juniors!(: Its still our responsibility and we should conduct them.

I know one concern about this is "Hey,I need my own private playing time to practise!".

What you can do is to give a task to section/junior and then give them a time limit for that.

Meanwhile,you can play your part.

Isnt that saving time?(:

We need to improve immediately.We must not show any sloppish and slackish attitude.

There's a time to play and a time to be serious people!

Our discipline.

At this point of time,your reaction will be like "oh no.Not again."

But too bad,I'm going to re-emphasize my point of discipline in our section.

Lets say I am speaking,or commenting,DO NOT INTERUPT.

You can raise your hand or smth,yeah.Just dont cut into my sentence.

This applies to any member.

After I scold or lecture you, you all just keep quiet for 1 second and then,the talking starts again.Do you take my word for real?

Have I been too lenient?Yes.

Keeping quiet during assembling.Is it that difficult?

Does the SL need to constantly strain their necks and turn just to see who is talking?And then followed by continuous "SHHHHH!!!"s?

No,right?I believe we can do it,we can keep quiet.

C'mon trumpet section!

Your actions reflect on yourself and this can influence others.

Take example,using of phones.Which I know you all dont do(:

If someone uses his/her phone,then a sec 1 will think it is allowed since a senior is using,and they'll follow.

The Sec1s have came in already. Sec2s, you all have to start thinking like a senior already. It is time for you all to start learning how to teach others already. Last year, It was Us who taught you all. Now, the new batch of members have come, it is YOUR turn to teach already! (:

Andandand, Sec4s, you all are stepping down real soon already. It is not the time for you all to start skipping band! (-.-) I dont want to mention names okay, you know who you are.

I know that you know that you all are not participating in SIBF. BUT. You all should not be thinking like : Oh, Im not participating in SIBF anyway, I come band for what.

No! That should not be what you all should be thinking! Its wrong! You all should be thinking that you all should come back to help the Sec1s while you all still can.

If you all keep skipping band, and suddenly come back once in a while, NO Sec1 is gonna recognize you! They wont even know you!

You all will be following Asyiqin to buy your band shoes either on Next Wednesday or Next Thursday!

2. Band fund

Those who havent pass me the band fund yet, please pass it to me ASAP. And YOU come and pass it to me, not I come to you and ask you for it.

3. Files

Remember to pack your files! And packing files does not only include sorting them according to alphabetical order, it also includes writing ALL the bar numbers and removing all the unwanted scores.

4. Section cupboard

Our section cupboard is ridiculously messy. Just look at all the files and folders mindlessly dumped at the side. Its just in a mess, we have to pack it ASAP.

AND YOU MUST DO.
1. Correct attire
-Clip your fringe [ girls ]
-Guys with long hair, get it cut
-Tuck in your shirt/blouse
-Fingernails must be short
-Socks covering your ankles.
Dont ever complain or talk back saying "Clip already what!" or "Cover ankles already leh!",when it is not done.
Everyone is doing the same,so dont complain!
Your attire must be in high standard
AT ALL TIMES WHEREVER YOU GO!

2. Disclipline
-Be serious at the correct time
-Obey instructions
-Reply to questions as a band with
energized volume! YES MAAM/SIR!

3.QM
-Do not knock/hit your intruments when placing it on the floor/ bringing
it up.
-No trumpet mouthpieces placed on the floor!
-Sign out your instruments if you want to sign out.(vice versa)

4. Logistics
-Stack the chairs in correct numbers.
-Stop dropping chairs!
-Those who break chairs, will pay.
-Remember to arrange chairs/tables
back to its original position after sectionals!

5. Library
-I recommend (s) and tuners to be returned each practice
automatically on the table.
-If borrowed original scores,return on that day.

6. Late coming/sick
-Inform SLs if you are coming late for band practice
AND THE REASON!
-Submit your parents letters or MCs to the secretary if you are sick
by the next practice you come.

It is compulsory for you to memorise 'Fanfare of Wakakusa Hill'.There will be auditions to test your memorising of that song.

When you all are back,every single one of you must be confident to play,since you should have score studied the scores and are sure of what you are playing.
We will be going for a competition next year,and you must be READY.
Take this opportunity to do self-training at home,
train on your individual foundation.
-Score study(recap the 10 steps)
-Long tones(24 counts)
-Articulations
-Rhythm(Rhythmic independence-dont depend on anyone else but yourself to figure out the rhythm of a new song,etc.)

Practice on your drills!Infront of a mirror would be good,see how you move.
Memorise the commands,make sure you dont get mixed up by them.

Imagine if everyone is marching together and one person looks tired and sloppy.You wouldnt want that person to be you right?SO,conclusion: Practice your drills.

Know what area(s) are you weak in,and improve.

Notebooks.
I noticed your notebooks in the band store,not taken home at all.
When Mr wong points out your mistakes,I want EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU to take note in your notebook.And when you do that,it does not mean your job is done.
You have to correct your own mistakes,and not let other people tell you.
I will check your notebooks starting from the next band practice.
I mean what I say.

so solo fake means like....
for example, they give you a simple melody, like twinkle twinkle little stars,
and they wrote solo fake there.
so, you can change it, like by adding simple quavers infront or behind.

okay,the past week's band practices were mostly in the AV theatre watching interesting videos right?Bear with it okay!Your dear sec 4 seniors having their O'levels,jyjy!

Its kind of "heavy",so most probably people will doze off or somthing,plus with the lovely aircon and dim lights.Still,however,try to keep yourself awake and note down the important points only.

Unable to make it for band practices:INFROM SY or HERDA!

Also remember to bring your band file and notebooks!No scores?Photocopy from seniors.Dont keep relying on us to help you photocopy.

Last,but not least,take care of your health!:D

Sleep early,eat properly and drink more water!You can actually bring your water bottle with you.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE!
1)NOTEBOOKS
please be reminded to bring your notebooks for band practices & sectionals.
when comments on your playing,videos,whatsoever,you need to note them down.
& not for long,you'll realise what you've written down really helps you.
Of course,don't just leave your notebooks in the bandstore after practice,
take it home and just look through what you've written,it takes less than 5 mins!

2)FILES
for days,weeks,months.
a few MEMBERS in our section hasn't been cooperative at all.
How many times do i have to remind you to PACK YOUR FILES.
and some of you don't even HAVE A FILE!
When i ask you to pack,PACK IT.
for goodness sake,stop depending on your other section member(s) to lend you their files during band!
If one day they are not able to attend band practice,and then what happens to you?
